Why choose silicone rubber for rail applications?

It is vital that the correct silicone materials are selected by engineers and designers to allow for ultimate efficiency at high speeds. Our silicone rubber is available in both sponge/foam and solid grades allowing for a wide choice in materials to suit rail applications.

UL94V-0 Silicone Sponge/Foam

kSil™ V-0 has been UL approved to V-0 classification as a fire resistant silicone sponge/foam. Suitable for use within both interior and exterior rail applications

Silicone Sponge - EN45545-2

kSil™V-0 sponge is specially formulated to provide low smoke and low toxicity properties compliant with EN 45545-2. Find out more about kSil™V-0 silicone sponge which ensures safety within rail carriages in the event of a fire.

High Temperature Resistance

All our silicone rubber grades excel at extreme temperatures of -60°C up to +230°C (250°C intermittently) which provides excellent sealing properties for applications that generate high heat such as HVAC and LED lighting systems within rail carriages.

Environmental Resistance

Silicone has excellent environmental resistance withstanding weathering such as Ozone, UV, rain and frost meaning outdoor applications such as electrical enclosures and lighting systems are kept dry without the risk of ingress from water and dust. Our silicone can achieve IP ratings of IP66. 

Low Compression Set

kSil™V-0 silicone sponge has low compression set of < 1%, which provides excellent sealing performance over a longer life cycle and with consistent usage under pressure.
