Flexible Silicone Solutions for the Rail Industry

Public transport connects people across the world and, with increasing demands in the industry, performance and passenger welfare need to come first. Networks should strive to deliver an efficient service that is consistent and effective at all times.

From underground and light rail systems, to more recent high-speed rail such as France’s TGV and China’s HSR systems, rail is one of the most important and busiest modes of transport, especially in highly populated areas.

With this comes the need for silicone materials that are durable, reliable and deliver exceptional performance, while meeting the health and safety standards needed to withstand intensive use.

How can silicone be used?

Silicone sponge is used in a variety of applications but generally its purpose is to seal, insulate or protect an application from flame, heat, water, dust or general weathering.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Why choose silicone rubber for rail applications?

Available in both sponge / foam and solid grades, we supply silicone materials to suit a wide range of rail applications. Choosing the right silicone will ensure ultimate efficiency at all speeds.

High temperature resistance

All of our silicone rubber grades provide exceptional sealing properties for applications that generate high heat, excelling at extreme temperatures from as low as -60°C up to + 230°C.

Environmental resistance

Withstanding extreme conditions, our silicone has excellent resistance to weathering such as ozone, UV, rain and frost, meaning exterior applications will be protected come rain or shine.

Low compression set

With a low compression set of < 1%, kSil™V-0 silicone sponge provides outstanding sealing performance over a longer life cycle and with consistent usage under pressure.

RAIL & MASS TRANSIT

Rail Applications for Silicone Products

Silicone is used in a number of interior and exterior applications within the rail industry, helping to maintain the structural integrity of the vehicle, while ensuring all components are secure and protected from corrosion and environmental conditions. The flexibility, strength and durability of silicone rubber is ideally placed in train locomotives and carriages along with other mass transit sectors such as marine vessels, public transportation and heavy goods vehicles.
