Protection & safety

Protection from environmental stresses, vibration, flame and extreme temperatures.

Silicone Sponge for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

As BESS sites are predominately located in outdoor locations, temperature control and environmenal protection is critical to ensure the battery housing units run at peak performance and reduce any critical failure. Silicone sponge is widely used within the energy sector due to the material’s high-performing properties, such as extreme temperature resistance (-60°C – 230°C), excellent sealing properties and environmental resistance from Ozone, UV and Corona damage.

kSil® closed cell silicone sponge is formulated and tested to industry standards to provide sealing, insulation and protection to BESS, providing environmental, heat and flame resistance. Combined with its thermal and chemical stability, kSil® silicone sponge is the ideal solution for BESS.

Typical Applications

  • Environmental Sealing
  • Thermal Insulation
  • Gap Filling
  • HVAC Seals
  • Door Seals
  • Vent Seals

PRODUCT FEATURES

Why choose kSil® Silicone Sponge?

As expert engineering specialists, we have formulated and developed a variety of kSil® silicone sponge grades, which boast features and benefits, including:

Temperature resistance

Silicone rubber boasts extreme temperature resistance and chemical stability, making it the ideal material for sealing. With silicone’s extreme temperature range (-60°C to +230°C), the material will not degrade with fluctuations in temperature unlike more conventional rubbers.

Durability

Silicone sponge provides ultra low compression force deflection and compression set making it ideal for use as seals and gaskets

Protection

Silicone has outstanding weathering properties, which offer superb protection in outdoor electrical enclosure units. Outdoor enclosures are consistently exposed to extreme environmental conditions and rely on a highly protective and robust material to prevent water ingress which can cause failure.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Renewable Energy Silicone Products

As quality engineering specialists, Silicone Engineering have developed kSil®VAC membrane sheets, which have been tested and proved to outperform the durability of organic polymer alternatives. Available in sheets and rolls of up to 1800mm widths, kSil®VAC provides high performance solutions for vacuum forming.

  • Extreme high tear strength
  • High elasticity (900%) Improved abrasion resistance
  • Ability to withstand puncture damage without catastrophic failure
  • Excellent durability and lifespan
  • Bespoke development for use as silicone vacuum membranes
  • Widths up to 1.8m
  • upplied as standard in translucent or blue
  • Capability to colour match if required
