The opportunity

A leading original equipment manufacturer operating in the energy sector contacted Silicone Engineering to create an environmental seal for a smart meter. The elastomer originally trialled had shown performance issues, including poor compression set, low temperature resistance, and outgassing that affected the communication board.

Solution

Silicone Engineering’s technical team collaborated with the manufacturer to develop a customised kSil® medium density closed-cell sponge gasket. The material offered a stable compression profile, wide temperature range, and low outgassing characteristics, ensuring consistent sealing and long-term performance.

The gasket design was converted directly from the previously trialled material, enabling smooth integration into existing production processes
