Silicone Engineering has long worked with a variety of companies that serve the Rail and Mass transit sector, from large distributors to specialist OEM’s.

With the rapid expansion in rail infrastructure and projects across the globe, this demand has called for a firm need to strengthen supply chains and source the best in innovative materials to further advance commuting networks and improve the overall safety of rail transport.

The opportunity and challenge: A specialist compliant material

When a global rail solution provider contacted us we were promptly on hand to equip them with our specialised rail materials that have been formulated and tested to meet the highest standards that are fundamental to the industry.

To execute the project, they required a specialist silicone material compliant to EN45545-2 and UL94V0. The company was tasked with a project to revamp freight cab floorings, bringing them in line with material compliant standards.

The solution: kSil V-0 our most versatile solution yet!

Upon contacting us by filling out our online enquiry form, conversations between both dynamic teams directed us to confront the challenges of switching the current black rubber with a silicone. The material not only needed to be durable enough to withstand the various force pressures of a mass transit system but also hold up to the safety specifications needed to keep passengers protected and safe. As a result, the non-silicone material was completely extracted and replaced with a cleaner safer silicone material.

Following a meeting with our engineers, samples were then arranged for their internal testing. After a 2month trial period, kSil™ V-0 was accepted in the soft-medium density and signed off by their team. We are now on their system for all on-going V-0 requirements and are currently shipping our materials into their various European operations.
