A roofing contractor working on a refurbishment project in Wimbledon required a durable sealing solution capable of covering bolts, rivets, joints and flashing interfaces exposed to the elements.

Silicone Engineering supplied a bespoke solid silicone membrane solution designed to create a continuous waterproof barrier across vulnerable roof details while maintaining flexibility and performance in exposed outdoor conditions.

The Challenge

Silicone Engineering recommended a 2mm thick white membrane manufactured from kSil® GP60 solid silicone sheeting.

The membrane was designed to be bonded directly onto the roof structure and aluminium flashings, creating a continuous protective layer over bolts, rivets, joints and other potential ingress points.

Once installed, the membrane effectively formed a secondary weatherproof barrier across the assembly, helping to prevent water penetration whilst accommodating movement caused by thermal expansion and contraction.

Unlike many conventional sealing materials, silicone remains highly stable when exposed to prolonged UV radiation and outdoor weathering, making it particularly suitable for long-term external installations.

The white membrane also provided a clean, unobtrusive appearance whilst delivering reliable performance in demanding environmental conditions.

The Solution

By utilising a continuous silicone membrane system, the contractor was able to establish an effective weatherproof barrier across the structural roof assembly without the need for extensive reconstruction.

The finished solution provided long-term protection against water ingress whilst delivering the environmental resistance required for an exposed rooftop installation. Through the combination of durable solid silicone sheeting and a bespoke application approach, Silicone Engineering helped support a reliable sealing solution for a high-profile refurbishment project in Wimbledon.
