Silicone Engineering in Pole Position
Silicone Engineering’s Race Team has been ‘gearing up’ for this month’s Isle of Man TT Road Races. The team are currently competing in a number of classifications headed by lead rider Russell Mountford. The world famous road race event attracts motorcycling enthusiasts from around the world to witness what is often described as the most dangerous road race held in the motorcycling calendar. The TT racing festival is held over a two week period from 24th May to 6th June and showcases a range of races from classical motorcycles to the modern superbikes and sidecars.
Starting at the town of Douglas on the south-east coast, the course takes a wide sweep to the west and north to enter the town of Ramsey on the north-east coast and thence return to the starting point, each lap measuring 37¾ miles (60.7 km) and taking in over 200 bends while climbing from sea level to an altitude of over 1,300 ft (396 m). This circuit is the epitome of the natural road course with all the roads used being ordinary public highways closed for the racing and practice sessions.
The fastest lap ever record was in 2009 by John McGuinness who set a staggering pace of 131.578mph. Russell will be competing in the Superbike, Supersport and Superstock classifications.
